Early 19th C. Neoclassical European Shield Back Side Chairs - a Pair

A lovely and not often seen Neoclassical Shield Back chairs.
Possibly Italian or really hard to say.
Very Neoclassical style is marked by clean lines, muted color palettes and overall symmetry of both furnishings and arrangements, and is largely inspired by the designs and motifs of Ancient Roman and Greek art and architecture. Originating in the 18th century, the Neoclassical aesthetic was notable primarily for its luxuriousness, timelessness and sophistication. There are several subsets of the style, such as Palladian or Federal, but each in its own way pays homage to the Vitruvian principles of durability, utility and beauty. Sumptuous materials such as marble, silk and fine woods are often employed to express refined taste, and much of the decoration harkens back to the motifs of the ancient world, including urns, Greek statues and more modern interpretations such as Wedgwood china. Overall, the Neoclassical aesthetic speaks to both opulence and comfort, imparting a sense of old-world European formality with modern functionality.
